Method 1:
Take the square footage of the walls in the room to be wallpapered. Do NOT deduct for room openings such as doors & windows. Use the following guideline:
For a rectangular room, input your room width, length & height into the following formula:
2 [(width x height) + (length x height)]
For example, a 10' x 12' room with 8' ceilings:
2[(10 x 8) + (12 x 8)] =
2 (80 + 96) =
2 x 176 =
352 square feet total

A single roll of wallpaper yields 30 square feet of coverage. Therefore, divide the square footage by 30 and round up to the nearest even number of rolls.
Wallpaper is priced by the single roll but packaged in double roll bolts. In this case, 352 / 30 = 11.4 -> 12 single rolls. Add 1 double roll to account for loss due to repeat -> i.e. 14 single rolls. for a pattern with a small repeat.
If you have chosen a wallpaper pattern with a large pattern repeat, you need to get at least one extra double roll to cover for wasted wallpaper. It is a good idea to have a little extra paper in case of water damage, child doodling, etc. Later, you may not be able to order your pattern and certainly will not be able to get the same run number which guarantees the dye lot matching.
